Slave or Free: Sex Addiction

There was a time even as a Christian that I would have been more than amazed to even consider writing on such a paramount issue. It is truly the Lord's grace and calling that brings me to this topic, and timely ministry, in which He has anointed my tongue as a pen of a ready writer, having set me free from sexual addiction. Within the last 20 years I have been privileged to minister to people from virtually every walk of life who have had various types of sexual addictions. The experience of counseling many men in the body of Christ has also impacted some of these men's wives in positive ways. One and a half years ago I started a sexual recovery group. I will be referring to it shortly.

My research in this area has indicated that there is the probability of a considerable percentage of people who have drug and alcohol issues who also have sexually related ones as well. A good counselor either needs to be skilled in both areas or amply ready to properly refer clients to other counselors with such expertise. Many of the men that I have talked to range from 18-60 years of age and are addicted to Internet pornography. I have learned from my own research that there are 280 million sexual websites. One source stated that 40 million people had visited sexual websites. An article in the Seattle Times newspaper claimed that online spending for adult entertainment in 1996 exceeded 51 million dollars, according to the Forrester Research Company. I could say much more on this issue.

I have counseled men so that they can be set free from homosexuality and other related issues. These men are in good local churches. They are doing very well in their recovery and are effectively touching the lives of others who are struggling in such areas. One individual received a ministry newsletter. Two days later he called me and inquired about when our group would meet. He found the spiritual help and support remedying his sexual addiction. ...but encourage one another daily, while it is called "Today," so that none of you are hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. Hebrews 3:13

I have counseled several wives about their husband's sexual addictions. The aforementioned issues affect many people in the church at large. My hope and prayer is that a glorious light continues to dispel these works of darkness, and that we will be able to help implement healing in these areas within the body of Christ. We then who are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not please ourselves. Let every one of us please his neighbor for his good to edification. Romans 15:1-2.

Another part of this issue is that people in this snare must have a accountable person in their recovery program and have a recovery group that they attend at least once a week, and meet with their accountable person or on the phone. They must read recovery material on a daily basis and they need to make a call to another recovery person. They need to pray and read the Word each day. They need to have a home church to belong to. There is freedom from sex addiction through Jesus Christ. Our ministry includes seminars, speaking engagements and counseling. Please be at liberty to contact us.
